EGAMES EVE!!!!

So, everything is set up in terms of competition materials, the balloon is inflated, decorations are being set up and all things are go... but are they? it looks like there is a chance of rain, but this will not stop the E-Games!! According to the Weather Channel, it will be cloudy all day with 20% chance of rain with a max of 10mph winds. This should be fine because of today's test of the drop device, which is hypothesized to work in even gale force winds (probably doesn't, but I built it so I believe it does). Oh, here is a link to a bunch of pics too!

monday...t-minus 8 days

so today was the last days for orgs to register their teams for E-GAMES. It looks like we are going to have an excellent turn out...all the big guns are registered - AIAA, TBP, BMES even some of the historically smaller orgs look have made a push to really be seen and heard at this year's competition. I am betting for a real thriller in this years "Quest for the Golden Calculator". If you are not aware, the great golden calculator is offered to the winning org as a trophy signifying the champion of E-GAMES. Their orgs name is forever carved into the shimmering gold placard at the base of this almighty trophy, and their legacy literally etched in Jacobs school folklore. The great golden calculator trophy itself has an amazing almost mythical story to it....forged in the fiery depths of mountain doom, this TI-83 holds the power of all graphing calculators no matter the model number of even brand. Thus any who are in possession of its awesomenessity will gain unimaginable calculating fortitude....and as it stands on display in the great halls of the Science and Engineering library, S&E to the locals, this emblazoned piece of engineering might waits eagerly to share its powers with a new owner. Who will be blessed with the ONE calculator that rules them all? I know AIAA - the defending champs - will do anything to protect their precious. Only time, engineering savy, skill, and, as always, a little luck will tell. Come Tuesday February 19th the fate of the Jacobs School lies in the hands of 16 engineering student orgs.

Hey there, Allen again

Sorry there haven't been much posting, but everything is going so very fast and we are running out of time to get things done. Today we finished up tests on the prototype tomato drop device and will be building the final design soon. Second we almost finalized the rules and schedule for E-games, we will be making a presentation to the orgs at the TESC GBM this coming Wed. for the Rube-Goldberg competition, now to be called "operation: CHAOS!!!!!" Hopefully soon, we will be posting pictures, but this may be doubtful. We are short on people working on things for the competition and we are trying our best to do all we can. One thing for sure, pictures of E-games it self will be on the site when it happens.

later days,
Allen

FIRST!!!

Well, I guess I'll do the first post...

I'm Allen Wong, part of TESC FORCE E-games competition design committee. I'm the main designer of the Rube Goldberg competition. Unfortunately, this competition has a lot of facets that I did not really see at the beginning of brain storming so things are going slow, and midterms don't really help with trying to spent more time on the competition specs. For the most part, the rules of the competition are complete, but trying to come up with a objective judging guideline is really hard. No matter what judging criteria I make it will have some subjective views. Originally I did want to make an example of a good Rube Goldberg device for the orgs to see, but I don't think I have enough time to make one, but I do have a great idea for what to do for I guess the "kickoff" of E-games that involves maybe the balloon, diet coke, mentos ... if you catch my drift...

Well, that's all I have for right now,
Allen Wong
